Enjoy the thrill of fishing in some of Rotorua’s best fishing spots, where you will be targeting some of the world’s finest species of Trout.

Rotorua is home to fresh water lakes including Lake Rotorua, Rotoiti, Rotoehu, Rotoma, Okataina, Tarawera, Rotomahana, Rerewhakaaitu, Okareka, and Tikitapu. Popular fishing lakes are Lake Rotorua, Tarawera, Rotoiti, Rotoma and Okataina. Our lakes are home to  trout species Rainbow Trout and Brown Trout, with the occasional Tiger Trout found in Lake Rotoma and Brook Trout in Lake Tikitapu.

These lakes carry a mix of both wild and hatchery fish and are acknowledged as some of the finest trophy lakes in the world. Although Browns are present in some waters, Rainbows are by far the dominant species. You can expect to catch fish ranging from 3lb to 8lb with 10lb fish not uncommon. All in the hands of an experienced skipper who knows the lakes after many years on the water.

Maui Trout Fishing & Tours features in the Documentary, Extreme Fishing II with Robson Green. The series is about British actor and TV personality Robson Green travelling the world and fishing to the extremes. Robson’s journey includes New Zealand, where Robson is treated to a real fishing adventure in Rotorua, where geothermic activity creates water hot enough to cook the rainbow trout he catches.
